The 2027 Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA) and Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) Annual Scientific Meeting is the premier international forum for sharing and discussing advancements in aerospace medicine, undersea and hyperbaric medicine, human performance, operational medicine, and related disciplines. This year's theme, "Interdisciplinary. International. Innovative.", reflects the collaborative and multidisciplinary expertise required to address the challenges of human operations in aerospace, undersea, hyperbaric, and extreme environments across the pressure spectrum.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION PROCESS

All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the Annual Scientific Meeting website.

Authors are encouraged to review these instructions carefully before submitting their abstracts. Incomplete submissions may be returned for revision or declined. There will be no extensions to the submission deadlines.

Limit: 350 words

LANGUAGE: All abstracts are to be written in English. 

Tables, figures, and references are not permitted in the initial abstract submission. All abstracts must be submitted through the online submission system linked above.

If your abstract is accepted, you will have the opportunity to incorporate tables, figures, and references into your final presentation materials, as appropriate.

ATTENTION

1. Applicants should not wait for funding approvalbefore submitting their abstracts. Submissions should be made as early as possible.
2. You must use personal email addresses when entering abstract and co-author information, as well as when inviting others to submit abstracts as part of an AsMA Panel or Workshop.
3. Only unpublished works at the time of abstract submission will be ​ However, novel analysis/interpretation of published data is acceptable.

PRESENTATION TYPES

1. Interactive Presentation: Individual Interactive Presentations are integrated into an Interactive Presentation session, grouped by topic. The presentation must be submitted as a PowerPoint with a maximum of 10 slides. Video and audio clips must be attached separately. They will be displayed digitally for two full days, each in an assigned space. Authors will be asked to present for a single designated 90-min period on one of these days.

2. Slide: Individual Slide presentations (limited to 15 min, including 3-5 min for questions and discussion) are integrated into a 90-min Slide session, grouped by topic.
   
   
3. Panels: Panels must consist of a coordinated sequence of five abstractsthat flow logically from one to another supporting a central theme. Each presenter should reference the central theme and provide a logical transition to the subsequent presentation. Panels must also allow for 15 min of structured discussionat the end of the session.
   
   The Panel Chairis responsible for:

• • Entering all supporting abstracts
  • Ensuring all abstracts clearly support the central theme
  • Preparing questions for and moderating discussion with the audience at the end of the session

Individual abstracts within a Panel are subject to the same general Abstract Submission Requirements as noted above, including Financial Disclosure Forms.

Unrelated abstracts from the same laboratory or organization do not constitute a Panel. If a central theme is not clearly identified, or if submitted abstracts do not adequately support the proposed theme, the AsMA Scientific Program Committee may reject the Panel in its entirety.

4. Slides: Individual Slide presentations (limited to 15 min, including 3-5 min for questions and discussion) are integrated into a 90-min Slide session, grouped by topic.
   
   
5. Workshops: The rules and expectations for Workshops are similar to those for Panels. Individual abstracts must be submitted for each invited presenter in a Workshop, coordinated by the Workshop Chair. Workshop course materials should be made available to registered participants.
   
   Individual abstracts within a Workshop are subject to the same general Abstract Submission Requirements as noted above, including Financial Disclosure Forms.

Note: AsMA presenters are limited to one Slide OR Interactive Presentation AND one Panel presentation unless given specific prior permission by the AsMA Scientific Program Committee Chair.

PRESENTATION CATEGORIES

There are two primary presentation categories based on the topic. Authors will be required to enter abstract text under the headings described below.

1. Original Research: Material that is original in nature and has not been previously presented. This category includes original analysis of a hypothesis involving data collection and analysis.
   • Required headings:Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion.
2. Education: Presentations that focus on information that is already available and intended for educational purposes.

The following information is required during submission:

• Abstract title
• Presenting author information, including mailing address, email address, and telephone number
• Topic area selection
• Names, email addresses, and affiliations of all contributing authors
• Abstract content (maximum 350 words)
• At least two learning objectives (required for CME accreditation)
• One multiple-choice question, including the correct answer and an explanation of why the correct answer is correct and why the other answer choices are incorrect, per learning objective.

• AsMA will continue their mentorship initiative to support students, residents, and early-career professionals for the 2027 Annual Scientific Meeting. ACCEPTANCE PROCESS

Each abstract will be reviewed by a minimum of three peer reviewers. Following peer review, all general submitters will receive an email notification of acceptance or non-acceptance by Sunday, January 31, 2027, 5:00 PM EST. AAMIMOs and UHM Fellows will be notified in March.

Acceptance decisions will be based on:

• Originality
• Relevance
• Scientific quality
• Compliance with submission guidelines

Reasons for non-acceptance may include, but are not limited to:

• Insufficient, inconsistent, or ambiguous findings
• Commercial bias
• Reviews of previously published literature
• Failure to comply with submission guidance

Abstracts must be complete at the time of submission, including final data and results. No updates to accepted abstracts will be accepted after Sunday, February 28, 2027, 11:59 PM EST.

All accepted presenters are required to register for the meeting. A discounted registration fee is available for non-member presenters.

ABSTRACT WITHDRAWAL

Withdrawal of abstracts is strongly discouraged. If withdrawal becomes necessary, a request should be submitted to the following contacts:

Requests should be submitted as soon as possible.

FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE AND ETHICS

Abstracts will not be accepted without completion of a Financial Disclosure Form for every contributing author/presenter, which is included within the online submission process.

Presenters must agree to comply with all disclosure requirements. Scientific presentations at AsMA/UHMS-sponsored events must adhere to the highest standards of scientific integrity and ethics, including proper acknowledgment of scientific and financial sources.

Presenters must avoid endorsing commercial products in abstracts and presentations. Advertisements are not permitted on Interactive Presentations, Slides, or any other presentation or handout materials.

PRESENTATION RETENTION POLICY

AsMA/UHMS will use live-capture technology to record oral presentations during the meeting. Recorded presentations will be made available to registrants after the event.

Authors must grant permission for recording and provide a non-exclusive license allowing AsMA/UHMS to repurpose the content. PowerPoint copies of Interactive Presentations must be uploaded to the designated submission site no later than Friday, April 2, 2027, 11:59 PM EST. All presenters must bring their PowerPoint presentations to the Speaker Ready Room on site at least 1 hour before their session.

PERMISSIONS AND CLEARANCES

All abstract submissions for presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting constitute consent by the author(s) for AsMA/UHMS to use the submitted materials, in whole or in part, as deemed appropriate.

All abstracts, Interactive Presentations, and oral presentations (including PowerPoint slides) accepted by the AsMA Scientific Program Committee or the UHMS Scientific Planning Committee for presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting may be published in the respective organization’s journal and may subsequently be used, reproduced, distributed, and/or published in various electronic media at the discretion of AsMA/UHMS.

Authors are responsible for obtaining all necessary permissions and clearances prior to abstract submission. AsMA/UHMS assumes no liability or responsibility for the publication of submitted material.
